Jianzhan

Jianzhan, renowned for its unique glaze colours and textures, originates from the Jianyang region in Fujian Province, China. Made from locally sourced iron-rich black clay and fired at high temperatures, Jianzhan teacups are known for their hardness and diverse glaze patterns, including “hare's fur,” “oil spot,” and “tortoiseshell.” Each glaze type reveals its own distinctive texture and colour variations, with natural spots and streaks forming during the firing process, making every piece one of a kind. Tracing back to the Song Dynasty, Jianzhan was the preferred tea-ware for royalty and scholars. Its thick, sturdy build and excellent heat retention keep tea at the perfect temperature, while the mesmerizing glaze patterns enhance the visual appeal of the tea experience. Intricate craftsmanship coupled with a low production yield contribute to Jianzhan's high collectible value. A Jianzhan teacup will make every tea moment a deep connection between traditional beauty and modern lifestyles.
